Search Iowa birth records 

From this page you could access every online birth database for the state of Iowa, such as Iowa birth certificates, birth records, birth notices, Iowa birth indexes, and other vital records. 

Since 1880, the registration of birth, death and marriage records started in Iowa. The Department of Public Health, the Bureau of Health Statistics maintains vital records for the events taking place in the state. No records for births happened before 1880 can be found in the office. 

Following individuals can order a certified copy of a birth certificate: 

  • The person named on file (should be at least 18 years old)
  • The person’s wife or husband
  • Parents, grandparents or legal parents of the person
  • Siblings of the person
  • Children or grandchildren of the person
  • Legal representative or guardian of the person 

Mail your request including completed application form, required fee, and a valid government-issued photo ID to the office with the address listed below:

A $15.00 fee is needed for the record search and issuance of one certified copy. 

You can also use the walk-in service by going to the above address between 7:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., everyday except weekends and state-observed holidays. You can either picked up certified copies after two days or they can be mailed to you.
