Search records of birth

Search Louisiana birth records

From this page you could access every online birth database for Louisiana state, such as Louisiana birth records, Louisiana birth certificates, birth notices, birth indexes, and other Louisiana vital records.

The Vital Records Registry office of Louisiana reserves records for births that took place in Louisiana from 1907 to the present. Birth records are private until 100 years after a person’s birth, according to Louisiana law. You can access records older than 100 years through the State Archives.

You can order a certified copy of a birth certificate if you are one of the following individuals:

  • The person whose name is on the record
  • Parent of the person
  • Husband or wife of the person named on the certificate
  • Brother or sister of the person
  • Adult child or grandchild of the person
  • Grandparent of the person

There are two types of birth certificates available:

Short-form certificates (or birth cards) contain date of birth, the name at birth, parish of birth, mother’s first initial and last name, father’s initials, issue date and file date.

Long-form certificates contain date of birth, the name at birth, parish of birth, father and mother’s full names, mother’s residence at birth time, hospital of birth, parent’s age at the birth time, parent’s place of birth, issue date and file date.

Both certificates have a raised seal and are certified copies of birth records.

You should send your completed application, correct fees and a copy of your photo identification to the Office addressed at:

PO Box 60630
New Orleans, LA  70160

The fee for short-form certificates is $9 and for long-form ones it is $15. It can take between 4 to 6 weeks for your request to be processed.

Or you can go in person to a Vital Records Service Center and bring your documents, required fees and photo identification.
