Search New Jersey birth records
From this page you could access every online birth database for the state of New Jersey, such as New Jersey birth certificates, birth records, New Jersey birth notices, New Jersey birth indexes, and other vital records.
The New Jersey Bureau of Vital Statistics and Registration maintains and handles birth records from 1901 to the present. It also reserves stillbirth certificate data from 1969.
You can also access birth certificates from local Vital Records Offices in the county where the birth occurred.
Please note that records from 1878 to 1900 have been moved to the Division of Archives. Also, microfilm copies of births from 1901 to 1923, deaths from 1901 to 1940 and marriages from 1901 to 1940 are kept in the Archives. These data are offered for in-person use only.
Before ordering a birth certificate you ought to first decide which type of copy you want.
Types of copies:
Certified copies are issued on the safety paper of State of New Jersey and include the raised seal of the office. Certified copies are legal documents and could be used to establish identity.
Certifications have no seal and are printed on plain paper. They are obviously not valid for legal purposes or establishing identity. They are usually only useful for genealogy.
To order a certificate copy, you should submit:
- A completed application
- Proof of your relationship to the individual named on the record
- A copy of your identity proof
- The required fee
The fee for the records search and a certification or certified copy or No Record Statement is $25.
