From this page you could access every online birth database for the state of Tennessee, such as Tennessee birth certificates, birth records, Tennessee birth indexes, birth notices, and other records.
The Tennessee Department of Health, Office of Vital Records maintains and registers the original certificates of births, marriages, divorces and deaths that happen in Tennessee. Birth records are available from January 1914 to the present.
Following individuals can order certified copies of birth certificates:
- The person named on the certificate
- Certain family members
- Legal representatives
- The name(s) on the file
- The date of birth
- The county or city of birth
- The father’s name and the mother’s maiden name
- Your relationship to the person
- A daytime telephone number
- Your mailing address
- Your signature

A certified copy costs $15.00 for the first copy. For births happened from 1949 to the present, a computer-produced certified copy can also be issued at a fee of $8.00. For both types, the fee for each additional copy is $5.00.
All certified copies (photocopy and computer produced) issued by the office include a raised, embossed seal.
After your request is received in the office, certificates are usually mailed to you within four to six weeks. For a recent birth, you should wait until several weeks after it, so that the certificate will be available.
You may also visit the office in person in the opening hours (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) to order a certificate.
