From this page you could access every online birth database for the state of Virginia, such as Virginia birth certificates, Virginia birth records, Virginia birth indexes, Virginia birth notices, and other Virginia vital records.
With more than 7 million records containing detailed information about the citizens of Virginia, the Division of Vital Records and Health Statistics reserves birth records for the Virginia state. Each month, they receive about 30,000 calls and answer about 9,000 people who go to their office asking for certified copies of birth, marriage, death and divorce certificates.
The following persons are entitled to receive a birth certificate:
- Person named on the file
- Father or mother of the person
- Husband or wife of the person
- Brother, sister or child of the person
You should include the following information in your request:
- Name at birth
- Date and place of birth
- Father’s name
- Mother’s maiden name
- Reason for the certificate
- Relationship to the person on the record
- Daytime phone number (with area code)
- Your return address
- Signature on the certificate request
You should provide a photocopy of your valid ID when ordering a vital record.

Customer service hours: from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturdays.
You need to pay a $12 fee for each certification of birth or for a records search when no certificate is issued. If you submit your request by mail, your certified copy will be processed within 5 to 10 business days (1 to 2 weeks) after your order is received.
